From what I’ve researched so far, one of the Camino cripplers sure to make your walking experience miserable is the dreaded blister.
So having said that, of course I’m gonna want to reduce the chance of getting blisters any ol’ way I can and lanolin-laden Blister Prevention Wool is just one of those methods.
Apparently when you start to feel a little hot “rub” spot on your skin, you just whack some of this wool in your sock at the rub spot and it will prevent further aggravation.
Other methods to prevent blisters include:
- Wear boots half to one size larger than normal to reduce rubbing when feet inevitably swell
- Double sock with a thin inner sock and a thicker outer sock
- Ensure socks are dry and are made from a moisture wicking material
- Avoid cotton socks as they retain moisture – merino wool or synthetic materials are ideal
- Keep hydrated by keeping your fluid intact up
- Air feet as often as you can and as soon as you stop
Also, cramming wads of wool in your ears to muffle the sounds of a chainsaw snorer in the albergue at night might just be another welcome application.
