RAAF Base Richmond Loop (24km)

Notes:
This was my second 24km training day, the last one being seven days ago, and of course I was back out on the RAAF Base Richmond Loop for another three fast-paced laps. Surprisingly to me that over an almost four hour period I came in within 90 sec of last weeks time. At least I’m consistent. Ha ha.

Of course, walking 32km a week might keep me somewhat match-fit, but the Camino-Frances itself will demand an average daily walk of 24km. Additionally, I have yet to train both with considerable negative and/or positive elevation and at considerable elevation.

I had no further gear deliveries over the past week so it was pretty much the same gear as last Saturday only with an extra 700g of weight in my pack.

Aside from putting another 24km of wear into my boots, I did get to experience throwing on my 18 year old Gore-Tex rain jacket, utilising my backpack’s integrated raincover, and walking in a heavy downpour for about 5km though. That was fun, and it highlighted that I might just need to add “lightweight Rain Jacket” to my shopping list.

On the “pain” front, once again I experienced no blisters and the “struggle” didn’t really start until the 21km mark this time around.

Distance walked today: 24km

Weight of Pack and Contents: 7.4kg

Surface: Asphalt

Weather: Mostly overcast with approx. 30min (5km) of heavy downpour.

Total Distance Walked for Training thus far: 56km
