Hi there, and thanks for visiting my Walking with Strangers website and blog. You may be wondering a little about me, so hopefully this will get you up to speed quicktime. |
My name is Michael, but I usually respond more to Mick (not Mike) or Kav depending on which of my circles you find yourself swimming within.
Gender: Male
Eyes: Blue and slowly failing
Teeth: all my own and real (no bedside glass required – yet)
Hair: lots of it and thick
I’m an Aquarian and I just turned 50 this year. I like to think I look about 35-40 (or at least I did 10-15 years ago) so thanks Mum and Dad for those awesome genes you bestowed upon me.
I like long walks (obviously) on the beach but until I find a beach at least 800km long I’ll have to settle for the Camino-Frances.
I have two Mums, two Dads, two sisters and two brothers and 50/50 custody of two well-fed Scottish Fold cats, Tazzy and Cookie, which I fully expect will be spoilt rotten staying with their Mum while I walk this well-trodden Spanish path.
I like my rock music like I enjoy my eggs – on the HARD side, and if someone can tell me how to order my Huevos “hard” before I get to Spain that would be ace.
I enjoy playing guitar and singing – I can’t be sure other people enjoy me doing so, but that’s what ear buds are for right?
I’m orginally from Queensland (that’s the best State in Australia for my International amigos) so the only footy I generally acknowledge is Rugby League (Let’s Go Broncos!) and we call the game where you kick a round ball around the paddock, Soccer.
I’m a proud member of the Royal Australian Air Force and thank my fellow members for all the support and encouragement they’ve afforded me on this Camino journey thus far.
I’m attempting to raise awareness for Mental Health problems that many of us face on a day to day basis, and my chosen charity in that regard is the Black Dog Institute. Please consider donating $5, $10 or whatever you can afford to the Black Dog Institute via my Walking with Strangers fundraising portal. Doing so will ensure you’re immortalised on my Mental Health Heroes & Heroines page and will come with much thanks and appreciation from me to boot.
I recently attended a course and became accredited as a Mental Heath First Aider and I encourage everyone to consider doing the same. Nowadays it’s important to realise that having some knowledge of Mental First Aid techniques is just as important as having the traditional, physical First Aid knowledge we’re all accustomed to.
