RAAF Base Richmond Loop (16km) – Thu

Notes:
As I left work to start my walk today, a workmate said “I look forward to reading your blog tonight”. And although I hoped that was true, I also wondered what I could possibly write about given this was the same route, same distance and roughly the same departure time as the last three days. What possible revelation could I have today?

Well as it turned out, it was one that relates rather closely to mental ill-health and the possible challenges for those that may suffer from it.

You see, if you read yesterday’s blog entry you’ll know that “it was one of those days” for me. I had walked 32km in two consecutive days with the prospect of another 16km ahead of me. I was hurting, had no motivation and literally had to drag myself around the well-worn route.

But today was so much different. I had energy, motivation, and I’d “vassed up” (#newverb meaning “to apply vaseline to”) my feet to counter Barry the Pre-natal blister and consequently reduce the rubbing and pain. And this with another 16km ahead of me and an accumulated 48km for the week behind me. Was it more sleep, less sleep, full belly or otherwise? – I couldn’t say, but it was just better than yesterday. And my time was a second faster than the one I posted three days ago.

Which leads me to my revelation or at least re-affirmation of that which I already know.

Today you might feel shite. Like it couldn't possibly get better tomorrow and more likely will be worse than today. But you just need to push through the day and push through the night, because tomorrow might just surprise you and be your best yet.

  1. Love that Michael. Good on you for pushing through after a tough session, and yes tomorrow really is a brand new day with new possibilities.

    1. Exactly. And even in life we’re going to have good days and bad days, happy days and sad days, but for all we know we still have our best day ever ahead of us.
